┗　このモデルの予想の中では、そのあたりはかなり現実的な部類だと思う。日本には強豪国を倒すだけの力があるし、今のブラジルも決して絶対的な状態ではない。
アルゼンチン対ポルトガルも普通に好勝負になりそう、ロナウドがベンチスタートを受け入れて、重荷のようにチームの足を引っ張ることさえなければ、ポルトガルが勝つというのも十分あり得る。

┗　どこかのドイツの記事で読んだけど、本人の発言によると、もともとこれは「こういう予測モデルやシミュレーションなんて当てにならない」ということを証明するための試みだったらしい。
ところが、本人の予想が偶然にも直近3大会の優勝国を的中させてしまった。
だから今回の「オランダ優勝予想」は、ようやくその連続的中記録を終わらせようとしているだけなのかもしれない。

┗　たしか、その人自身が「このモデルは本来クソみたいなモデルのはずだった」と言っていたんだよな。ところが蓋を開けてみたら、ワールドカップの優勝国を3大会連続で的中させてしまっている。

なかなか興味深い点がいくつもあるな。このモデルは韓国をかなり高く評価している。
韓国がグループ首位になると予想するのは理解できる。個人的にはメキシコを予想しているけど、あのグループはかなり混戦だ。でも（グループ2位以内突破確率）72％という数字は、このモデルが韓国の突破をかなり高い確率で見ていることを意味する。何がそんな結果を生んでいるのか気になるな。

それと、なぜカタールがこれほど高評価なのかも不思議だ。自分には今大会でも最も弱いチームの一つに見える。自分の先入観を差し引いても、彼が何を見つけてカタールをここまで突破有力と評価しているのか知りたい。
オーストラリアがグループ首位というのも興味深い予想だ。前の二つほど衝撃的ではないけどね。アメリカ代表ファンの自分でも、このグループがかなり予測しづらいことは認める。
このモデルはアジア勢をかなり好んでいるように見える。ウズベキスタンがコンゴ民主共和国を上回る予想とかね。自分も今のウズベキスタン代表は好きだけど、純粋なタレント力ではかなり差がある。それでも結果を出すなら、自国リーグが過小評価されているという点に頼ることになるだろう。
一方で、自分の予想とかなり近い部分もある。人間ならそう予想する理由は分かるけど、モデルがなぜそう判断したのか気になるものだ。例えばラウンド32で日本がブラジルを倒すとか、ポルトガルとオランダが決勝で対戦するとか。どちらもそこまで突飛ではないが、かといって明らかに起こりそうな結果でもない。
やっぱりこの人の論文を読んでみたいな。
( Some really interesting things here. His model really like South Korea. I can get predicting them to top the group, personally I predicted Mexico, but it’s a very open group. But 72%, this guy’s model says Korea will advance with very high certainty. I wonder what is yielding that result. I also wonder why Qatar are so highly rated. I see them as one of the weakest teams at the tournament. Even accounting for my bias, I wonder what he’s identified that has them looking so likely to advance. Australia top is an interesting outcome. Not as shocking as the other two. Even as an American fan, I can admit that this group is wide open. His model seems to like Asian teams a lot. Uzbekistan over DR Congo, I mean I like this Uzbek team, but they’re very much out-talented. They’ll have to rely on the fact that their league is severely underrated. And then there are some things that are very close to my predictions, where I can see why a human would make that call, but I wonder what would make a model do it. Like Japan downing Brazil in the Ro32, or Portugal and the Netherlands facing off in the final. Both not that crazy of predictions, but also not clearly likely. I’m gonna have to read this guy’s paper. )

( His model definitely overrates the AFC squads but unexpected things happen at every world cup and its well within the realm of possibili1ty. Plus a model that just picks the favorites or slight underdogs rarely pans out either and isnt even really worth paying attention to. Someone with a proven track record making bold, unpopular predictions is worth paying attention to imo )
